»Haufen« (Heap)
Sculpture Made of Recycling Concrete in 2017

» For the faeces are the infant’s first gift, a part of the body, which the infant will only give up upon persuasion by the beloved person, and through which it also shows affection on its own accord, as it normally will not dirty unknown persons.« (Sigmund Freud)

In 2016 Dellbrügge & de Moll happened upon the possibility of transforming a tear-down building into an artwork. Instead of bringing the rubble to the dump, it was cleaned and added to concrete in varying stone grains, thus replacing the usual primary raw materials sand and gravel.* Their project »Polis« is currently being realised in Trier in the context of »Kunst am Bau« (art in architecture). Dellbrügge & de Moll made initial experiments with recycled concrete early this year. In connection with their invitation to the Waste Project, they came in touch with another material development method: turning household waste into building material. The municipal waste management company Stadtreinigung Hamburg together with FBH Frischbeton Hamburg GmbH and other partners are currently undertaking a research and development project (www.optimin.de), in which incinerator bottom ash is washed and separated from metals and other impurities. Dellbrügge & de Moll have employed this alternative building material for their contribution to the Waste Project. The artists have thus »dropped a load«.

The project was realised with the kind support of FBH Frischbeton Hamburg.

*  For the development of this procedure, Walter Feess from the company Heinrich Feess GmbH & Co. KG, Kirchheim/Teck won the Deutschen Umweltpreis 2016 (German Environmental Award). www.feess.de

Dellbrügge & de Moll — Berlin

Building and demolishing, reconstructing and relocating, opening and limiting, erasing and naming are processes of negotiation. Dellbrügge & de Moll examine from an artistic point of view how spaces are constituted and who seizes the related power of definition.
